Panel on the use of Sport and the Olympic Ideal to Promote Human Rights for All in Geneva
Terre des Hommes is co-organising a panel discussion during the 32nd regular session of the Human Rights Council (13 June to 1 July 2016). This event is organised together with Amnesty International (Brazil) and the Nosso Jogo Network , it was convened by the Human Rights Council in accordance with its resolution 31/23 “Promoting human rights through sport and the Olympic ideal”.
This resolution will be the basis of discussion for the panel . Participants will look at the involvement of the IOC and FIFA to show efforts toward an institutional approach to strengthen human rights. In addition, it will focus on the human rights abuses and violations related to Mega Sporting Events continuing to happen in host cities and host states such as Brazil or Qatar.
The event will encourage multi-stakeholder engagement, since it brings together NGOs, sport governing bodies as well as affected civil society representatives and promote dialogue on issues related to sport and human rights.
