Fancy yourself as a football illustrator? Well now you can show off your design skills whilst showing your support for Children Win in the build-up to the 2018 World Cup.

Next spring, the sixth sticker album from Swiss collective tschutti heftli will be released, comprising works of art instead of photographs. Teams are designed by illustrators, graphic designers, cartoonists, and other artists – with pencil, on the computer, glued together or moulded in clay.

All proceeds from the non-profit project go to Terre des Hommes, the humanitarian organisation which campaigns for children’s rights in the context of sporting mega events through its campaign ‘Children Win’.

In order to find the artists for the 2018 World Cup album, tschutti heftli is holding a competition. The task: to design a portrait of Diego Maradona. Artists are free to choose how they want to portray the Argentinian legend  – as a bust, from up close, just by his hand, or any other way. The entry deadline is August 31, 2017.

The submitted works will be presented to a jury, which will award cash prizes totalling 5,000 Swiss Francs (approximately 4,600 Euros) for the best works. Our jury consists of professionals from the worlds of art and football:

  • Ramona Bachmann, Swiss international footballer
  • Iouri Podlatchikov, Russian-born Swiss snowboarder and Olympic gold medallist
  • Alexi Lalas, legendary defender for the United States men’s national football team
  • Nicolas Mahler, Austrian comic artist (Die Zeit, NZZ am Sonntag, Titanic)
  • Viktor Melamed, Russian illustrator (Rolling Stone, The New Yorker)
  • Sergey Elkin, Russian cartoonist (Radio Liberty, Deutsche Welle)
  • Christoph Härringer, German comic artist, creator of ‘Spottschau’, the longest-running newspaper comic strip in Germany
  • Bodo Birk, director of Internationaler Comic-Salon Erlangen, Germany’s most important comic festival
  • Thomas Beschorner professor at the University of St Gallen’s Institute for Business Ethics, doing research on questions of responsibility in professional football

Since the first edition in 2008, the tschutti heftli sticker album has become a well-known project beyond the borders of Switzerland – not only because it is the artistic answer to Panini, but also because of its support for Terre des Hommes.
